I haven't updated this in a couple of months! Time to catch up!
We seem to have settled in a bit more. David is really enjoying his job, and the boys are still doing well in school. October was rough, because David was out of town for work 4 out of 5 weeks during that time. I'm so glad he was home with us every weekend. The boys really rely on his solid, calm foundation.
Then November was rough, because at least one of us was sick every single day from Halloween through today. December is going to be better though! I thought we were all well on Monday, but that was a trick. I'm sure we will all be over our illnesses eventually though. We are warm and cozy and safe in our home that finally feels like home, we are all together, and we have a lot to be thankful for, so I'm optimistic.
Time for a photo dump, because it's been too long for a proper narrative.
We went back to the National Zoo in early October.
My friends Bob & Harvey came through town and had dinner with us one night.
We went back to Mount Vernon one Saturday in October
And we took a drive through the Shenandoah National Forest a different weekend in October
Then I abandoned my family for a weekend, and went to Disney World by myself. I really wanted to meet my good friend Jem who was there with her family on holiday from the Isle of Man in the UK. I didn't want to miss the chance to see her. It was a much-needed break during a difficult fall, but also a selfish thing to do. I do wish the boys could have come with me. Since David was sick the whole time I was gone, and the boys have missed a lot of school in November from also being sick, it was probably best that I went on my own. Maybe. I don't know. I still feel guilty about it, and I didn't do a very good job of being social with the wide variety of friends who were also there that weekend, but I got to see Jem, so I'm glad I went.
We spent Thanksgiving with David's brother and family in New Jersey. It was so nice of them to host, and a lovely time for David and his family. I was really sick the whole time, so I spent a lot of time alone in the hotel room, trying not to die. (Yes, I'm being dramatic.) I ignored my bronchitis and joined them for a day of sight-seeing on Ellis Island and at the Statue of Liberty. It was a great outing, but I definitely needed antibiotics after that! Sorry I didn't get any good pictures of Terry, Amy and Riley. It wasn't a purposeful omission!
David's parents came back down to Arlington with us after Thanksgiving. We had a nice, quiet week together, with just a little bit of touristy stuff while David was at work and the boys were at school. This photo was at the National Botanic Garden, which is definitely a place I'll want to visit in spring. I need to get my camera repaired first though!
They were happy to be here the same week as Tommy's first Arlington school band concert.
And now I'm all caught up! December will be a better month. I know it will. There will be presents and cookies! Those make everything better.
