Carrie, Cindy and I have been in Taos for about 24 hours now, and I can honestly say we are all very, very relaxed. The resort is gorgeous and it's been overcast and drizzly. It's not pouring rain and the sun peeks through the clouds now and then. This is actually a very nice change for us. You don't realize how unrelenting the Albuquerque sun is until you experience a pleasantly drizzly 55 degree day. I don't really feel like spending much time at the computer right now. So I'll just post a few pictures and give you a little peek at how we're spending our time.
We arrived late afternoon, and the short drive from Albuquerque to Taos is very pretty. We ended up with the Argentina suite, which is lovely but not our first choice since Carrie's on a rollaway instead of a sofa-bed. (Yes, I offered to share my bed with her, but she chose to sleep by herself in the living room.) We have two full bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a spacious living room with wet bar, and our own private patio and hot tub. It's actually very, very nice.
After settling into our room, we meandered over to the hotel bar for drinks. My one margarita was enough to really liven things up. Yes, I am a lightweight. We had reservations at the hotel restaurant for 6:30. Their restaurant is the only AAA 4-diamond restaurant in Taos, so we dressed up a bit. Our waiter was adorably inept, but after our drinks we didn't really mind all that much. My beet salad was initially beet-less, and Cindy had to send her steak back twice, but the food really was very good. Carrie and I split a wonderfully spicy calamari appetizer. Then I had a nice salad with the tardy beets and an elk entree. We even had wine and dessert.
We had grand plans to watch a movie after dinner, but we all ended up just chatting and then going to bed. I slept pretty well considering that I'm away from home. This is my bedroom. That window overlooks a water feature, so I slept with the window open last night. The gurgling of the fountain was very peaceful.
This is the bathroom that's off my bedroom. I'm more than willing to share the deep tub with my roommates, but so far I'm the only one who's taken a long, luxurious bubble bath. I took said bubble bath immediately after an extremely relaxing massage at the spa. It was very much worth the extra expense. Yes, we spent a couple of hours at the spa after a late breakfast, and then I took a bath. It's been a very relaxing day.
I've spent a lot of time sitting and reading at this table on our patio. I packed ALL the tea-making paraphanalia, so I just make myself a cup of tea when it gets chilly and then go back to reading. As you can see, the grounds are lovely. Eventually the chill of the rainy day drove me inside, so I moved my reading efforts to the bedroom. Every once in a while I go in search of chocolates or make another cup of tea. Cindy took a nap. Carrie's watching a movie on her laptop. We'll probably head out for dinner in a little while.
Doesn't this all sound wonderful? It's hard to believe we'll be back home in 24 hours.
